Workshop:
Three workshops to be offered Monday 3 April, 2023, 1-5 pm, Presenters Dinner at Trinity Hall from 7 pm
Basic and Advanced Material Selection with Granta EduPack (Dr Claes Fredriksson).
This is based on the classic short course for beginners as well as experienced educators. The workshop consists of lectures and hands-on exercises. We will also discuss the latest tools.
Design and simulation – linking material selection to finite element analysis (Dr Nick Stefani).
This workshop will explore how the new and engaging Ansys Discovery tool can help engineering educators by reducing traditional learning barriers of simulation tools. Through live demonstrations and hands-on exercises, you will experience how using Ansys Discovery in combination with material selection can help students gain a more holistic view of the design process and the impact of their material choices.
Teaching Sustainable Development using Ashby’s 5-step method (Dr Tatiana Vakhitova).
Following development in Mike’s recent second edition textbook “Materials & Sustainable Development”, we are enhancing our workshop material, which is now used in teaching for several years in various educational establishments, to embrace social element of sustainability assessment. This workshop will encourage discussion on sustainability integration in engineering curriculum and sharing of ideas on what is next in this subject-matter.
