The Skateboard Design Workshop -
Material Selection and FE Simulation
This workshop will introduce you to two of the key tools for product development and design, Granta EduPack and Ansys Mechanical. We will start by learning the basics of material selection and how to conduct classes online using, for example by remote login to your University. Then we will apply this to the design of a longboard, to benchmark and optimize material properties for its decking. It is now possible to export the results into Ansys workbench and use finite element simulations to find the necessary thickness of the board and bring back the optimal geometry to EduPack for cost estimate and environmental assessment. The Best Material + Best Design = The Best Product.
